The origin of a name

In 1789, during the reign of Charles III of Spain, Alejandro Malaspina and José de Bustamante – two officials in the Spanish Navy – set off on a round-the-world political and scientific expedition whose aim was to visit Spain’s possessions in America and Asia. The journey became known as the Malaspina expedition and was made up of two corvettes: La Descubierta and La Atrevida (The Discovery and The Bold). The curiosity and adventurous spirit that led these men to make these expeditions to discover remote lands is the precursor of what moves millions of tourists all around the world.
